Blue light Why is blue light the greatest danger to a computer user?

Many of our followers do not know why the blue color is the harmful element on any electronic screen, I mean… why is the red color not the harmful? Why shouldn’t it be green? Was this just a joke or an attempt to sell a screen in the past that everyone talked about the color blue? No.

Here we must take a few minutes of your time to talk quickly about the harms of blue light and everything related to it in terms of the computer screen that you use. This light that affects the health of your eyes can be overcome, so do not worry about this crisis. But, before all this, we must know what blue light is in the first place.

What is blue light?

What is blue light

If you are reading to us after you finish high school, you are in luck. We’ll be invoking some words from the physics lessons on this popular curriculum that no one likes. Let us deal with light as an electromagnetic radiation that has a large range of frequencies, energies and wavelengths of its own, which start from “gamma” to the whole world, given that scientists have not reached the ceiling of radiation yet.

We can see from this large range only a small fraction that we can see under the name of the “visible spectrum”, which comes with a wavelength ranging from 400 to 700 nanometers. The colors of this range are the colors of the spectrum that we know. Wait, you remember it … right? Colors of red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple.

Blue has the smallest range in this group of colors due to the presence of high-energy photons in this group of colors. Many of the technologies that we see in modern screens use this range of colors, knowing that the blue color is its main source is sunlight.

So what’s the problem I’m talking about here?

The artificial blue color that comes from LED and OLED lights works slightly differently from the blue that comes from the sun. This light only works in the 380-500nm range. The disaster here is in the range we see within this range, from 415 to 455 nanometers, which is the most harmful of any screen.

This range is the range of apparent high-energy light. This is the blue light that comes from your laptop screen, smartphone screen or your desktop screen. Yes, sunglasses help you get rid of this light, but… Will you wear sunglasses every time you sit at your desk and turn on your computer? of course not!

I, for example, as a content writer and editor at Arab Hardware, sit at my computer for up to ten hours a day to work and play. Also, do not forget that I use a smartphone throughout the day to communicate with the staff sometimes or in order to communicate with my friends.

Do not forget also that the biggest problem in the world for the eyes is myopia, and I am one of them if you ask me. Sometimes, I suffer from headaches often with a feeling of dryness in my eyes while I sit at the computer for long periods. Do you see how I sacrifice for you in order to read what is meaningful? Pardon, pardon!

Is it related to age?

Its effect is age-related, yes. Everyone under the age of 14 and who uses tablets and smart phones for long periods is always at risk. Up to the age of 14, the cornea of the eye is still developing and growing. For children, the use of these devices for a long time is wrong because it will increase the risk of myopia. I mean … if you have a younger brother or a parent, set aside reasonable time for the child with these devices.

For us adults, we have our own problem. Blue light not only enters the eye, it enters from the mesh to the back of the eye to build itself over time. This effect makes the eyes fatigued with prolonged use, exposing them to dehydration and fatigue that it is not required to deal with in the first place.

The reason is due to the frequency, energy and heat of the blue color itself, which affects the retina and its cells, which may cause the macular degeneration problem of the eye, for which you will not find any treatment except surgery in your eye, and no one wants this after we have all seen Final Destination, right?

Why does computer screen produce this color at a high intensity?

color high intensity

Most of the computer monitors currently in use use a panel with layers of liquid crystals between groups of filters and electrodes. These are the LCD screens that we use for games in most cases and which need a light source to show the image that is placed on the surface of the screen itself.

No, the lighting in your room is not the component responsible for this lighting. The responsible element here is the LED that is used as a light source instead of the cathode that we used to see in the past in old screens due to the differences that the LED units placed compared to these screens.

The LED group that is used in these screens is placed behind the panel or at the edges of the screen itself in order to give a source of light that can spread over the entire surface of the screen. The most commonly used LED in this case is the white and blue LED in the computer screen.

The blue LED outputs its lighting in the range from 450 to 470 mm with the use of yellow phosphors. This mixture appears to be white when viewed directly, which is the main reason why blue is taken out of a computer screen so much.

The disaster here is that the white LEDs degrade over time, which brings out more blue. This happens because of the yellow phosphorous pigment that prevents it from absorbing the blue color, which leads to eye fatigue when looking at the screens after some time of using them.

How did BenQ overcome the damage of blue light in its screens?

BenQ

If we mention eye protection, we cannot find better than BenQ which is always developing its screens to get rid of this problem with its own protection technologies. BenQ monitors eliminate blue in the 420 to 480nm range in order to mitigate the damage of blue light that comes out of their screens.

As mentioned, the light that will enter the retina to harm it is blue, BenQ knows this. The matter did not stop at this range only, but also reached BenQ technology that eliminates simple tones, which is “BenQ Low Blue Light Plus”, which can get rid of these degrees in the range of 420 to 455 nanometers, which is also considered one of the most dangerous shades of this color.

This technology is available on most BenQ monitors today. Gaming monitors, office use or even entertainment use from this company come with these technologies. That is, yes, BenQ is not the only company that provides these technologies, but it is one of the best companies to adopt them.

In the end.

Always try to look for a screen that comes with the technologies that get rid of this problem so that you do not strain your eyes while using your computer screen. I mean … your safety is more important than everything, isn’t it?
