Moments before the end of the Time Flies conference, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced the arrival of all new versions of operating systems today, including iOS 14 and iPadOS 14. So iPhone users are a few hours away from receiving a major new update that comes with a set A large number of important additions and features. As usual, iOS updates are easy to install, all you have to do is click “Download and Install” and leave the phone for some time for the process to finish. But before that happens, there are a few things to check to ensure the new release is received smoothly and without a hitch – let’s explain them below.
Is your iPhone compatible with iOS 14?
It’s very frustrating to be excited about a new iOS release, and after waiting, you discover that the iPhone you have is not on the compatible device list. Therefore, the first thing to check when you know that there is a new version of your phone’s operating system is to make sure that your phone is genuinely eligible for the update to this version. Since we are talking about iOS 14 here, let me tell you that there are a large number of iPhone models compatible with the new version, in fact, any iPhone currently running iOS 13 is officially eligible to receive the iOS 14 update. This means that even the iPhone 6S that was released in September 2015 is on schedule with a major update today. And to be clearer, here is the complete list of all phones compatible with iOS 14:
- IPhone SE 2020
- IPhone 11 Pro Max
- IPhone 11 Pro
- IPhone 11
- IPhone XS Max
- IPhone XS
- IPhone XR
- IPhone X
- IPhone 8 Plus
- IPhone 8
- IPhone 7 Plus
- IPhone 7
- IPhone 6s Plus
- IPhone 6s
- IPhone SE
Provide adequate storage space
Any major operating system update usually needs free storage space, so that the files required for the update can be downloaded before installing it on the phone. And for iOS 14 update, you will likely need at least 5 GB of free space to download without problems. Therefore, if you are using an iPhone with little storage space and suffer from the lack of free space, it is time to free up some space by deleting unwanted photos and videos.
For applications, you can take advantage of the “empty applications” feature to remove any application that you do not need at the moment without deleting your data, so that when you download it later, the application will work as if you did not delete it. You should also pay attention to the system “Recommendations” that are displayed on the “iPhone Storage” page in Settings, as there are some effective ways to save as much space as possible.
Save a backup copy of the data
The most important step before updating your phone to a new version of the operating system is to backup your data. It is true that iOS updates will not delete the data stored on the iPhone, but it is a “backup” in case of any emergency. So, before downloading and installing the iOS 14 version today, make sure to save a backup copy of your iPhone, either via iCloud or iTunes.
If you are looking for the fastest way to save a backup copy, it will be the one that is done through iCloud where all it takes is a good internet connection. If this is available, all you have to do is go to “Settings” and click on the name of the Apple ID account, then “iCloud” and then press On the “backup” and from here you activate “backup to iCloud” if not activated before, and finally click on “backup now” to start saving a new backup copy of important data.
But the best way to back up the iPhone in my opinion is to use iTunes on the computer, whether Windows or Mac, because iTunes makes a comprehensive backup of the phone and does not focus on important data only, and this gives you the opportunity to easily return to iOS 13 if necessary.
Start by connecting the iPhone to the computer via the USB cable, then launch the iTunes program and click on the small phone icon in the top bar. Then, in the Backups section, select the “This computer” option and then check the “Encrypt iPhone backup” option to ensure that a comprehensive backup of all data is saved without exception. After that, press the “Back Up Now” button and wait for a while for the process to finish.
IPhone battery charge up to 100%
Quite simply, you don’t want your phone to shutdown once the update process starts. Therefore, before pressing the “Download and Install” button to update to iOS 14, make sure that your iPhone is 100% charged and it is preferable to make the phone connected to the charger during the update process, if possible. Here it is worth noting that downloading major iOS updates may take an hour or two, so do not update if you are in a hurry.
Update all installed applications to the latest version
If you remember, Apple began launching the first beta version of iOS 14 last June, giving app developers enough time to make the necessary adjustments to their apps to keep them in line with the new version of the iPhone operating system. This means that app developers are working hard to prepare their apps for iOS 14 before it officially arrives for all iPhone owners around the world. So don’t forget to check for new updates for the apps you use so that you can enjoy all the new iOS 14 features like widgets and also it is a precaution to avoid facing any issues after the update. All you have to do is open the App Store, tap on the profile picture, then swipe down the screen to view any available app updates.
Check when the update arrives in your country
If you’re so excited and can’t wait to get iOS 14 today, you’d better know when your wait is over! This means staying informed and knowing exactly when the update will be released in your country. And let me tell you that usually any official event related to Apple, including the launch of an update for iOS, will be at 10 AM PDT. So expect that the update notification will arrive on iOS 14 today at 7 pm Cairo time, 8 pm Saudi Arabia, 9 pm UAE time, 5 pm Morocco time, and 6 pm Algerian time.
So, quite simply; You have set up your iPhone now. Time to sit back, be some patience, and wait for Apple to give the green light to iOS 14 to spread to the world. Incidentally, we will have several separate articles highlighting the most important features of iOS 14.
