Nintendo announced the sale of 4.73 million switches in the last quarter, nearly double the company’s expectations and a 44% growth over the same period last year. This brings the total device sales to 28.83 million units last year.
Nintendo achieved an annual sales growth of 37% in 2021 compared to 2020, which constitutes a significant jump in sales that exceeded the expectations of analysts and the company itself.
The company has accompanied these figures to the total sales of the Switch device to 84.59 million units sold since its launch, while it aims to sell an additional 25.5 million units in the next twelve months – its fiscal year that starts from April 2021 until March 2022.
On the same side, the company managed to sell 230 million copies of the games last year, a big jump compared to the expectations the company was aiming for by 90 million games.
Animal Crossing has ranked first in terms of game sales with more than 32 million copies sold since its launch in March 2020. The Super Mario 3D All-Stars package, which is a remake of the classic Mario games, has sold nearly 9 million times. As for Mario Kart 8, it generated 10 million new purchases, cementing its position in the most popular Switch game since its launch.
With these numbers, Nintendo’s sales of games and subscriptions represented a 37% increase over the company’s sales during the fiscal year 2020.
