Settings that must be activated after updating the iPhone to iOS 14

Apple recently launched the iOS 14 update to reach all compatible iPhone users around the world. Therefore, if you do not update your phone until today, you should do after completing the preparation steps, since iOS 14 brings with it radical changes and very important features that iPhone owners have been waiting for, starting from the library of applications and widgets, to the feature of pop-ups to answer calls and watch clips the video. But unlike all the features revealed by Apple, which some of you already know, there are new options added in “Settings” and we believe that they should be activated once you update to iOS 14 because they are very useful and will improve your experience without a doubt, so let’s start by reviewing them directly below.

Displaying new applications in the applications library only

The App Library is one of the main features in iOS 14, which displays all the applications installed on the iPhone in one screen, with the use of artificial intelligence to organize these applications in different folders to find applications with ease. The library can be accessed by swiping to the far right of the main screen. But by default, any application you download from the store will appear on the last page on the main screen, while there is an option in the settings that directly converts new applications to the application library; Helping you reduce clutter on the home screen.

After opening “Settings”, all you have to do is go to the “Home screen” section, then in the “Recently downloaded applications” section, select the second option “Application Library only”. From now on, any new app that you download from the App Store will only appear in the app library instead of on the home screen pages.

Detecting hacked passwords

If you are using an iOS or Keychain password manager, it is necessary to activate the “Detect Hacked Passwords” option after going to “Settings” and then “Passwords”. As the name suggests, activating this option will alert you in the event of a leak of data from the sites that you use or when you use a certain password twice on different sites, and in both cases, the purpose here is to protect the penetration of your personal and sensitive data on different sites. This feature is among the additions that I liked in the iOS 14 update, not only because it notifies the user, but also helps him to quickly take appropriate measures to address any breach.

Private address when connecting to Wi-Fi

Starting with iOS 14, users can hide the primary Mac address of the iPhone and use a private (different) address every time they connect to the Wi-Fi network to enhance protection and avoid tracking attempts that may be made by network administrators, especially if you are connected to a public Wi-Fi network. The Private Address feature is so important that we only wrote a separate article on it where we detailed its motivations for its use and how it works.

To activate it, all you have to do is go to “Settings” and click on “Wi-Fi”, then connect to the Wi-Fi network and press the (i) sign in front of the network name. On the next page, information about the network connected to it is displayed, including the “private address” option. Enable it to notice that the Wi-Fi address changed from the primary address before activating the feature. This change will help you surf the Internet and ensure that no one is tracking your online activities.

Pressing from behind to execute orders

Backpressing is one of the favorite features – for me – that the iOS 14 system comes with, as it allows performing some commands and actions by simply clicking two or three times on the back of the phone or the back of the iPhone – where there is the Apple logo. This feature uses the phone’s built in acceleration sensor to detect if you’ve taped the back of your device, so it works on all iPhones eligible for the iOS 14 update. To be able to activate it, go to “Settings”, then “Accessibility” and press ” Touch, scroll down, and tap Back.

You can then start defining actions according to the number of clicks, press “double press” or “triple press” to show a menu filled with commands such as opening the app switcher, capturing the screen, locking the screen, displaying the notification center, accessing the home screen, or mute … A large number of procedures are available to select from; This will help you to use the phone more easily than before.

Change the default browser

The ability to change the default browser is among the advantages that the iOS 14 system has also brought, as the iPhone user is no longer forced to use the Safari browser when clicking on links within applications, but Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge or Firefox can be set to replace Safari in a very easy way.

All you need is to install the browser on the iPhone, then open “Settings” and scroll down and then click on the name of this browser, then click on the “Default Browser Application” option and choose the browser you want to use as the default from the list. But there is an important note: Most browsers currently do not reflect the iOS 14 changes, meaning that there are browsers for which you may not find the “default browser application” option, such as Firefox, so you have to wait for the browser developer to support the new feature.

Activate translation without internet

In addition to all the features, Apple added the new Apple Translate application with iOS 14 for simultaneous or written translation, similar to Google Translate, as the application supports a large number of languages, including Arabic. Among the features of the application is that it allows offline translation. To activate this feature, you only need to go to “Settings” and scroll down, then press the “Translation” application and then activate the “Translation Mode on the device” option. This will open the translation application on the language download page From it, download the complete package for the languages that you want to use in offline translation.
