Microsoft begins the public offering of Your Phone applications

During Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event two weeks ago, Microsoft announced several enhancements to the Your Phone app. The Your Phone app trial will now be released to the general public after a short period of exclusively Windows Insider testing.

Microsoft announced the news through a post, and it appears that the company has not updated its hardware compatibility list for this feature yet. However, the experience is still likely to be limited to Samsung smartphones, thanks to the Link to Windows feature.

Your Phone

Link to Windows is integrated with all the latest Samsung smartphones as well as many mid-range Galaxy A devices. You can find the full list of compatible devices here. And Microsoft will likely update the list soon to add the Galaxy Note 20 lineup.

Moreover, there are also some other hardware and software requirements for this feature to work. Your computer (running Windows 10) should be running the October 2018 Update or later, preferably the latest version of Windows 10. You also need to have the latest versions of The Your Phone app and Link to Windows. Finally, your phone and computer must be on the same Wi-Fi network for it to work.

Microsoft has expanded its partnership with Samsung by announcing many new Windows features exclusive to Galaxy smartphones, and among a wide range of new features is the Your Phone app experience.

The new feature provides the ability to access Your Phone apps for Android directly from your Windows 10 computer. You can also pin an app to the taskbar or start menu on your computer for quick access.

The Android apps will open in a separate window outside the Your Phone app, as this allows you to multitask while seamlessly providing the large computer screen, keyboard, mouse, stylus, and touch screen capabilities of Your Phone apps.

All these features are now rolled out to compatible smartphones. Microsoft says that this is a gradual rollout and it may take a few days before new features appear on the Your Phone app on its Windows PC.

Microsoft plans to add more functionality to the Your Phone app in the future, as the company is working to add support for several mobile apps to run later this year.
